Curriculum & qualifications
As students progress through the Primary and Secondary sections they follow a curriculum based on the National Curriculum of England and Wales. All subjects, with the exception of other languages, are taught in English.
Using teachers who are native speakers of English, and specialists in their own curriculum area, English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, ICT, Art, Music and PE are key subjects taught at the Primary and Secondary levels. Throughout the curriculum we encourage the application of and effective use of modern technology.
The Thai Language and Culture Programme is a central part of the curriculum. Daily lessons support the East meets West philosophy throughout the school. The Thai Curriculum provides the foundation and structure for teaching which ensures that students may transfer successfully to and from Thai schools and to universities. Cultural awareness, manners and etiquette are also stressed and linked to both Eastern and Western traditions.
Mandarin Language also forms part of the core curriculum for all students up to the age of 14, and is selected as an optional subject by many in Years 10 to 13 who realise its importance in a growing economic market place.
An Intensive English Programme enables new students to develop their English language skills, before being integrated into the full curriculum programme.
The Primary School Key Stages 1 and 2 (Ages 5-11)
Children study all the subjects within an integrated curriculum, with a particular focus on English language and literacy and numeracy. Every lesson presents an opportunity for children to develop their language skills. Our aim is to stimulate our students’ interest in the world around them and develop in them a life-long love of learning.
The Khao Yai Campus provides ample opportunities for students of all ages to learn about the natural world around them.
Educational visits enhance the curriculum, enrich the learning experience, and help students develop new skills.
The Secondary School Key Stages 3 and 4 (Ages 11-16 )
At the age of 11 students move from the Primary to the Secondary section. During the first three years of secondary school students study English, Mathematics, Thai, Mandarin, Science, History, Geography, ICT, Art, Music, Design and Technology, and Physical Education, all taught by specialist teachers.
At the age of 14 students continue to study English, Mathematics, Science, ICT and Thai, but they can also choose some of the subjects which they would like to study. These include Business Studies, History, Geography, Art, Design and Technology, Music and Mandarin. For two years students follow courses leading to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) which is recognised worldwide.
Key Stages 5 (Ages 16-18)
From the age of 16 students follow a two year course preparing them for the High School Diploma and GCE A(Advanced)levels which lead on to universities either in Thailand or abroad. Our Guidance Programme supports students in making their choice of university and guides them through the application process.
Our academic staff are well qualified, experienced teachers who are specialists in their curriculum area. Our international staff are all native speakers of English, recruited from overseas or with experience of teaching in an international context.
Our Music Programme, delivered by teachers from the University of Mahidol College of Music, allows all students, through whole class teaching, to develop their appreciation of both Thai and western music, and to play both classical and modern styles. The programme also provides tuition in a range of instruments to individual students.

Adventure & Study Programme
(All Year)
St. Stephen’s International School (Khao Yai) runs a variety of educational and adventures trips for students of all ages. We have considerable experience in arranging educational field trips for our own students and offer visiting groups the same opportunity. The aim of an educational field trip is to learn about a subject through direct experiences and personal investigations. As the students move up the grades, they become more and more involved in developing their own research projects. Students can select their individual research methods, choose the required equipment and analyze their scientific results.
