The ISAT Organized Workshop
INTERCULTURAL COMPETENCY:
Preparing Students for Success in the 21st Century
By Dr. Derrick Gay
ISAT hosted a two-day Intercultural Competency Workshop, facilitated by Dr Derrick Gay, on 28–29 January 2026 at The Athenee Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Bangkok.
The workshop brought together participants from ISAT member schools, as well as colleagues from OPEC, the Ministry of Education, and private sector partners. Over the two days, teachers, counsellors, and school leaders engaged in thoughtful discussions and practical activities focused on strengthening intercultural competencies and fostering school cultures grounded in dignity and respect.
Participants explored how Eastern and Western cultural perspectives shape experiences of inclusion and belonging within international school communities. Through Dr Gay’s framework, Fostering Cultures of Dignity and Respect, attendees reflected on strategies that support inclusive school environments where all students and colleagues can thrive.
The workshop received excellent feedback from participants, who appreciated the practical relevance of the sessions and the opportunity to exchange perspectives with peers across the education sector. Dr Gay’s facilitation was widely praised for being engaging, insightful, and thought-provoking.
ISAT extends its sincere appreciation to Dr Derrick Gay and to all participants who contributed to making the workshop a meaningful and successful professional learning experience.
